Rhode Skincare Routine: Restore Cream + Barrier Butter + Caffeine Reset
If you’ve picked up more than one rhode skincare product, the order you use them in actually matters. Here’s a simple, correct routine using rhode’s three core skincare items β Barrier Restore Cream, Barrier Butter, and Caffeine Reset.

Morning Routine
- Cleanse with your regular cleanser.
- Caffeine Reset β apply to clean skin, focusing on areas prone to puffiness (under-eyes, around the nose). This is a quick-hit treatment step, not a moisturizer.
- Barrier Restore Cream β apply as your everyday moisturizer, letting it fully absorb.
- Sunscreen (not part of rhode’s current lineup β use your preferred SPF as the final step before makeup).
Evening Routine
- Cleanse to remove makeup/sunscreen and the day’s buildup.
- Any treatment serums you use (outside rhode’s lineup) go here, before moisturizer.
- Barrier Restore Cream on most nights β or:
- Barrier Butter instead, on nights your skin feels especially dry, or nightly if you have dry/very dry skin generally. Don’t use both at once β Barrier Butter is a replacement for the cream on nights you need extra richness, not an additional layer on top of it.
Do You Need All Three?
No β this is a routine you build into, not a required starter kit:
- Just getting started? Barrier Restore Cream alone covers AM and PM moisturizing for most skin types.
- Add Caffeine Reset specifically if morning puffiness or dullness is a concern β it’s rhode’s highest-rated skincare product at 4.33/5.
- Add Barrier Butter specifically if your skin runs dry, or seasonally in winter β it’s not meant to replace the cream for most people, most of the time.
A Note on Layering
Thinnest to thickest is the general rule for any skincare routine: treatments and serums before creams, lighter creams before heavier balms. Caffeine Reset (a treatment) goes before Barrier Restore Cream (a standard moisturizer); Barrier Butter (a heavier balm) should generally stand alone as the final step rather than being layered under or over the cream.
