How to Use Rhode Highlight Milk the Right Way
Highlight Milk looks simple, but it’s a liquid product β which means the application rules are different from a powder highlighter. Get it wrong and it can look patchy or disappear into your base. Here’s how to use it correctly.

Three Ways to Apply It
1. Underneath makeup (most popular method)
- Apply to clean, moisturized skin before foundation or concealer.
- Dot a small amount on the high points: cheekbones, brow bone, bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow.
- Blend with fingertips until it disappears into skin β you should see a glow, not a visible product layer.
- Apply the rest of your base makeup on top as normal. The glow will show through.
2. Mixed into foundation
- Add a small drop of Highlight Milk to your foundation in the back of your hand, or directly in your palm.
- Mix and apply as normal for an all-over, lit-from-within finish rather than a targeted highlight.
3. On top of finished makeup (for more definition)
- Apply a small amount over set makeup, directly on the highest points of the face.
- Blend quickly with a fingertip or damp sponge β liquid products can disturb powder products underneath if you over-blend, so use a light touch.
The Most Common Mistake
Using too much at once. Because it’s liquid, Highlight Milk looks sheer in the tube but builds up fast on skin. Start with less than you think you need β a pea-sized amount covers the whole face for method #1 above.
If You Want More Definition Instead
Highlight Milk is designed for a soft, diffused glow. If you want a more precise, buildable shimmer you can layer on top of finished makeup, Pocket Pearl‘s pressed-powder format gives more control for that specific effect.
Shade Matching
Shade 01 is the lighter, more universal tone. Shade 04 leans deeper and more golden-bronze, better suited to medium-to-deep skin tones.
